Solnhofener Natural Stone - Fossilstone - surface QUARRY ROUGH
The Fossilstone is mainly distinguished by the characteristic of its natural surface. In the quarry rough surface you can find non organic sediments like iron and manganese and also fossil remains of organic life.
The quarry rough surface is often marked with fern like brown or black Dentrits, which give the stone a combination of light and warm colours such as yellow, white up to light brown. All these factors give the stone a multifaceted appearance. The result is an absolutely unique and decorative element which allows the surface of the stone to appear as an image of an old prehistoric flora. In addition, the stone is sometimes enriched by fossils of small animals.
